454 install
Hi all,
I was looking for a clutch to install into my Vette. I have a 4spd muncie with 10 spline input shaft. My original motor was a 350 and I did find one for the sb but I can not find a clutch that is 10 spline for a 454... only a 427???? When you guys converted to BB from a SB, what did you use? Can I got with the BB using my existing 4spd? All the clutches I see for a 454 are 26 spline?????? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELPPPPP I want to use this 454!!!!!!

The 11" 10 spline 427 clutch is the clutch disk you want. They are the same just get the disk that will match the trans splines you have.
You have to remember that in 70 when GM switched to the 454 they also went to the 26 spline.

Ford and chevy clutch disc's can be interchanged. The mustang disc is a ten spline. Even the pressure plate can be interchanged. I have a 64 ford truck Centerforce pressure plate in my bigblock and a chevy 26 spline disc.

GM only switched for the 454 right? I check my tranny and the numbers match for the 350.... I wasn't sure it the 427 11" 10 spline would work with the 454 flywheel. This is all Steve Straus' fault. If he didn't show me that BADDDDDDDDDD Abutt$$$$$$$ 427.... I would not have gotten BIG Block fever. Well, atleast until I went to Carlisle in Aug.... :eek:
