Well, I see a few here who have converted from Steeriods to Borgeson but not any going the other way......
Danny Popp and Brian Hobaugh both used Borgeson boxes on what are 2 of the fastest street tire Autocross Corvettes. I don't know of any really fast guys running R&P set ups, Fairgrounds cruisers yes but not bolt on some massive tires and beat the crap out of the steering systems guys. I look at all the Heim ends, intermediate shafts, thin sheet steel brackets and just cringe when looking at the rack conversions marketed for our Vettes but what's a guy like me know?
If a Borgeson box can hold up to this kind of use I think it will be plenty good for my street driving.
From: Arlington Va Current ride 04 vert, previous vettes: 69 vert, 77 resto mod
I installed the steeroids and was happy with it . when I replaced the failing PS pump I did have to shim the new power steering pump valve to make it feel right. which was not a big deal. i have no experience with the Borgeson....and oh yeah i had to ding my headers for clearance for the D joints. it definitely made driving more fun.
I have also installed a Borgeson and I am very please. I think that everyone should know that there are some header issues. I went with tight tuck shorty's style headers. I have 1" clearance between the Borgeson and the headers. The clearance my ZZ4 head and the Borgeson is 3 3/4". That is the head, not the header.

I installed a borgeson box on a 69 bb vette , with xs power headers + side pipes. #3 plug is hard 2 get in with the box + header.
I was trying to decide which way to go until I found out that Danny Popp's winning Corvette uses the Borgeson unit. That fact, and the fact that I was able to buy it for $570 shipped, made my decision to buy the Borgeson easy.
I have yet to install it, so I can't give any first-hand opinions about it yet......hope I made the right decision!!!
and they would have designed our cars with it if it were out in time... do they even make a system for any car like the old Borgeson??? i doubt it... just like they do not make flat head heads for cars anymore... can you make power from an old flat head??? heck ya... will it ever be as good as a modern V-8?? heck no.... can you race a Borgeson? heck ya!! will it ever perform as good as a modern Rack-n-pinion? heck no...
Everything I have read about rack and pinion verses Borgeson has been from someone who has one or the other. Never both. They both like what they bought. So make your choice, spend your money and enjoy. They are both better than original.
What we need is a true shoot out. One car with both installed. First one and then the other then test, test and test. A few runs with track times and the same driver. One without an opinion.
I think I will go for a run in my Borgeson equipped Corvette. But, can I tell you which is better? No. There I said it. Enjoy!!

I have neither a steeroids nor a borgeson on my 78 but a blueprinted custom/rebuilt OEM box ($300) and a 10 Z06 bought new with R&P. I agree that the Steeroids seems to much of a departure from the OEM system versus the R&P on these old cars but I have experienced neither. I think if I was going to go for one of the 2 options, I would go Borgeson not because i think it is that much better than my modified OEM box but it does have a quicker ratio and none of the OEM associated hardware links. Not thrilled with the steering column to rack link on the steroids. Just an opinion from someone with neither options currently.
There are a few comments in these threads from people who have had both. Most have said "no discernible difference".
I went w/ borg for simplicity and the fact that I'm keeping the steering geometry the same, basically.
I went rack well before any kits appeared....winter 01-02 along with many other mods.....
Fresh rebuilt junkyard rack...35 bux....many U joints and shafts later, I mixed up my own input linkage with just TWO universal joints....not 3, and longer tie rods using stock ends....and that cut my bump steer down to almost nothing compared to stock....
Think about it... if the rack and pinion steering was not better, would they put it on a modern C7 vette? or a C6, 5, 4????
really????.... Rack and pinion..
p
a modern car is made for the rack and pinion, a older car such as a c3 corvette was not designed for a rack and pinion, I do believe that the steroids does work well with it for street use, but to go out and drive the wheels of your car, I don't think so.

I track my car, and it was an amazing difference in steering controal... My c3 feels as modern as my c5's or c4....
