Default A I R system

I am in the process of restoring a 1979 and I can't seem to find evidence that it ever had a AIR system on it. Not empty pulley, no plugged exhaust manifolds..... Question. Did all 1979s have the AIR system on them?

Only the L-82 engine and California L-48's had an AIR pump and associated hardware. If your engine does not have an AIR pump than it definitely was not an L-82 engine and most probably was a non california L-48. Hope that helps!

The AIR Smog pumps were not common on most C3s and as JB78 says most did not have them unless they were specifically built for California and in this state they date all the way back until 1972 when they first mandated better emission controls.

Sorry but this is not correct. AIR systems first appeared in 1966 (RPO K19).

ALL 1968 and 1969 Corvettes has an AIR system no matter where they were delivered.

To be precise in 1979, only L48s with automatic transmission was not equipped with A.I.R.. If the vehicle was optioned for California, high altitude or four-speed, it got A.I.R.

Your emission label will also indicate whether your vehicle was equipped with AIR. Look for the emission label broadcast code. My guess is your 79 is an auto with emission label code X6.
