Default Frame off rebuild coil spring question

I am doing a frame off restmod on my 73. I blasted the frame and had it powder coated and now am reassembling it. The frame is on jack stands with out the motor.

Without the weight of motor and body what is the best way to install the front coils in the a arms. Inside spring compressors do not seem to work.

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks!

I recently removed those springs without the engine on and did use 'inside' springs compressors. Check my pictures in the thread called "Three Two One Lift Off". I got those compressors at O'Reilly.

I did the same thing, and used the iternal spring compressor--you have to run the compressor bolt up through the shock mount hole on top

The last one I did had the 15-16 inch springs and they had to be compressed to get them in. I used a compressor from Auto Zone that had hooks that were attached by bolts which I lightly greased. Once i got the spring lined up and the lower arm jacked into position I attached the spindle. Then it was just a matter of loosening the bolts with my fingers and releasing the hooks from the body of the compressor. It all fell out the hole in the bottom A arm. Here is a pic of tool. I used a threaded rod connector and some washers as additional spacers. The connector just slipped over the shaft. Be sure to grease the shaft before use.
