i am in the market for some new shocks for my 76 vette and was wondering what some of you are using.i have lowered my car and still have the factory stock shocks on it.i would like to get some more control of ther car at higher speeds,i am thinking bilsteins or i heard monroe makes a good preformance shock for our cars what do you think??????
Re: who has what preformance shock????? (stroked 76)
I recommend you do a search on this subject, as there have been several threads in the past about the same subject. Also, spend a little time with the techs at VB&P. They can assist you in your efforts. Currently, I have their entire suspension and KYB's, but have just received a complete set of the Bilstein Sports, after reading some threads and speaking with the tech people. BTW, I checked prices for these Bilsteins and VB&P had the best price I could find.
Re: who has what preformance shock????? (stroked 76)
Koni double adjustables. I have them on one of my Camaor's. Ride is a bit harsh, but at hight speeds, it cornors flat. Be ready to spend a bunch of $$$ for the Koni's.

"more control at higher speeds"
i don't know what you mean.
could need a wheel alignment, tires, bushings, springs, parts.
i have, on my 72, Sears HD shocks on sale $9.99, i don't have any control problem, but i did rebuild the entire suspension better than stock, and set the alignment myself to suit my driving style.
Re: who has what preformance shock????? (stroked 76)
Shocks, by themselves, won't substantially improve cornering and handling. They will improve ride quality and keep your tires on the road better which certainly helps.
If you have stock components, KYBs are probably your best value. If you have upgraded with poly, larger stabars, smart struts, shock tower spreader and larger tires, I recommend Monroes from Guldstrand or Bilstein Sports from VB.
GM has been using Bilsteins since 84 - must be a reason.....
Re: who has what preformance shock????? (The Dude)
Based on my experience with KYB, I can't recommend them. I had one go bad. Replaced under warranty and that one went bad also. Tossed them out and installed Koni's, haven't had any problems.
