Access to shifter adapter for 81
I have a 1981 that was originally a 3 speed auto.
I had it converted to a Tremec TKO500 5 speed about a year ago.
Apparently an adapter was required to reposition the shifter to fit through the tunnel in the correct place.
Lately there has been a lot of play with the shifter and it seems to me that the shifter is coming loose from the adapter. The transmission works fine... but when it's in gear, I can move the stick back and forth quite a bit.
I haven't been in there yet and before I start taking things apart... any suggestions on what would be the best steps to get access to where the shifter attaches to the adapter that would require the least amount of interior dis-assembly?
I'm guessing the top of the center console (the piece that the shifter pokes through and that the boot is attached to) needs to be removed... what might be the best way to do that?
I can read through the AIM, but I was hoping someone here has done this already and can give me a readers digest version and any gotchas I should watch out for.
