Default '72 with a '69 engine cast number

I've got a bit of a mystery that I hope someone can give me some insight on.

My '72 200 HP base model coupe has engine cast number 3932386 which belongs to a '69 300 or 350 HP engine. To make matters more interesting, there is no engine code or partial VIN stamped on the engine pad. The previous owner told me that as far as he knew, the motor was original, but had been rebuilt.

Having the block decked would account for the missing stamp, but not the cast number. Is it possible the engine was swapped and I have a '69 300 HP base or a 350 HP L46? Maybe even a mythical '69 LT1?

Yeah, wishful thinking on that one. Anyone have any ideas how to get some answers?

Not sure. The cast number is correct for a '69 Corvette.

that casting number was not corvette specific and was used to build 302`s 327`s and 2 and 4 bolt main 350`s so it could have been out of any chevy made in 69 literaly!!!

The 010 block would be correct for 72 Corvette smallblocks. Your engine was probably swapped.

What's the cast date code? Won't tell you what it is, but it might exclude a number of possabilities.

There's no examples I've seen of this casting number being produced or installed in anything later than early '69 production.

I'm scratching my head for now. I'm going to take off the valve covers and see what the head no's are. I don't really care about the engine matching, but I sure would like to know what I have.

The cast code is K-8-8. The last number may be 9. That would be Nov. 8, 1968 or 1969.
