The two valves probably leaked from day one. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the seats weren't cut or ground concentric to the guides.

That may be. I think it's getting progressively worse. You can notice a power loss, poor idling, and just doesn't feel like it did when new. I'll find out more this spring when I take it apart. Thanks a lot.

Probably old-skool stones with a loose pilot.

Might be worth just doing a teardown and inspect; a little lapping would show issues with the valves/seats.
