I have a replacement wiper switch to install in my 80. After removing the dash cluster (did all the while-I'm-at-it stuff like new bulbs and lube the speedo cable), I found that the switch was barely laying in place. The bezel is loose but will not come out. I literally lifted the switch out, unclipped the wires, and prepared to fix the bezel and install the switch.
How in the wide world of sports does the bezel attach to the dash and where is the place where the mounting bracket on the switch is supposed to attach? I want to get it back together correctly and soon as the local club has a drive coming up(weather permitting).
I've researched through the AIM and can only find some vague drawings of the switch unless someone can point out a page with a really good drawing of how it mounts.
Real-world experience is key here. Can anyone offer any help?
The bezel was just the trim, it really held nothing in place. On the backside of the dash pad there is a nub that one single screw goes into... The switch lifts upward and clips in at the top and then the screw is placed to hold it.
Hopefully the screw was just missing. If the hole is shot for the screw it is a real pain to fix... you could fill it with epoxy and re-drill it. Or you could try this: Place the switch in the correct position, put some plastic fusion in the hole and while it is still wet push a screw in place. Turn the screw 1/2 turn to make sure you get some of the fusion in the threads and allow it to dry.
Here is a help page on this subject, just click on supporting document.
If you look at this picture, you'll see the nub under the dash switch hole... this is a reproduction dash pad but it will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. People tend to strip this hole out when re-attaching the screw and that is a problem.

That really helps! I need to repair the pad where the screw goes. It is indeed torn out, not just stripped. I think I can fix it, though.
Thanks!
