I have a cam lobe or 2 that are wiped so its cam replacement time. so I figure while i'm in there i might as well do the whole top end.
What I'd like is a hydraulic roller cam and aluminum heads.
What I have is a '70 convertible, 4speed, w/ 3.56? gears.
All I'm going to do is cruise around and maybe get on it a little. The idle I'd like to be one step up from stock in regards to smoothness. Thats about it.
I was thinking of one of the Edelbrock kits but noticed they dont come with push rods...makes no sense to me.
go to competition products and price out some of the aluminum heads from Air flow research and dart .get a head with the right chamber size to keep your motor pump gas friendly .they sell howard hydraulic roller cams cam also .what intake do you plan on ? what hood do you have ?buy your push rods last ,after you measure for proper length.what rocker arms will you use ?

My car has an LT1 hood so there's a little extra clearance.
For an intake nothing more than a good dual plane.
Rockers? Nothing fancy, just good quality roller tips.
To be honest, I don't want to deal with measuring push rods and all of that which is why the 'kits' appeal to me. But then again it looks like the kits don't come with push rods, rocker arms or lifters so I'd be doing that anyways.
Perusing the AFR site it looks like the 195's would be just fine.
Sounds like your willing to spring for the AFR's. I can give you some advice. Do not go with a top end kit. The cams are generally too big and the heads are generally 2nd tier heads or below. Here is what I would recommend for you.
Heads: AFR 195 65cc chambers. Call them direct. Get them to recommend a spring to fit this cam with 1.6 rockers and buy the heads with those springs and 7/16 rocker studs.

This will make awesome power in a very street friendly package and meet your needs, gearing and expectations.
