I have an '82 that I bought last year for a project and am having a few issues I was hoping someone could help me with. First off the CFI was removed and replaced by a 4 barrel. I can't seem to get the tach to work. I installed a new HEI distributor and connected up the tach wire but I am getting nothing. Is there something I am missing with the ECM possibly? I have several other issues too but I am starting with this one.

Does the manufacturer of the new distributor mention anything about using a filter when connecting to a Corvette tach?
I bought this distributor at a swap meet. It is new but had no box or paperwork. The car also had an Accel dist. and coil when I bought it with the tach connected correctly but it didn't work then either. You think the issue could be with the filter?

Bypass the filter and see.
What is the tach doing? Any needle movement?
The tach isn't controlled by the ECM, it gets the signal from the distributor.

The tach does move when you turn the key on. I will try and remove the filter and see what happens. I just ordered a new chevy performance crate engine and have started to remove the old engine. It will be a week or so before I get it all back together. Thanks for the help.
Thanks a ton for all the help. I will give this all a try as soon as I get my new engine. Looks like it will be a couple more weeks before everything comes in. Thanks again.
I just bought my wife a 82 corvette, standard, the tach works but it's about 2000rpm to high... It moves up when accelerated, and down when letting off the gas... Not sure if it's the gage or sender... Jeff
