Default Shipping things for rebuild - question

So this may be an incredibly dumb question...but her goes

I removed the real wheel bearing assembly from the TA. Both assemblies need rebuilt, and I prefer to send them out.

Bair's seems affordable for the rebuild service, but shipping seems crazy high. Looked at USPS and UPS...over $100 to ship a box with just one assembly.

Can someone offer some clarity?

thanks in advance!

They both go by package dimensions and weight plus insurance. Will the wheel bearing assemblies fit into a USPS "if it fits, it ships" flat rate box? Check with Bair's- they may have a deal with a carrier for shipping too. FedEx will probably be about the same rate. Only other option I can think of is Greyhound- but they don't door to door pickup or deliver that I know of.

I recently had this done on my 81 and had Van Steel do it and for one rear bearing assembly the shipping was $36.17 and when I sent the core back Via UPS the shipping was $23.63. I live in West Virginia. Oh by the way Van Steel does AWESOME work.

As said see if it will fit in a one price USPS box. Also fedex is offering a similar service now.

That and check out fedex ground, they use to be the cheapest for larger/heavy items.

There are some great step=by=step threads on rebuilding a trailing arm assembly.

Try rebuilding one of the arms yourself...if it doesn't work out, you can still box it up and send both arms to a rebuilder.

I've never touched a Corvette...but the Forum is teaching me how to do EVERYTHING.

Even if you can afford to have everything done by vendors, it feels great to accomplish some things by yourself!

(Which reminds me...I need to reassemble the passenger's trailing arm since I disassembled/rebuilt it, and the paint has had a week to dry...LOL!)

I trust Van Steel's work from the quality of my half-shaft and t-arm assemblies. Having also observed their shop on several occasions, you know they are doing the work and not an unknown 3rd party.
