If you go to http://www.corvette-101.com/ the layout of trouble shooting vacuum issues is great! I loaded the info on my laptop and took it into the garage and troubleshot everything. Now of course only the high dollar items are bad, 2 actuators and 2 relays, 1 metal check valve=$325.00. The sad thing is all the cheap items passed inspection. Well I'm sad I did not solve the problem today as it was my goal to sacrifice Saturday and have it 100% by the time I popped the 1st beer but these parts need to be ordered so maybe by next week. I am happy to say that after screwing around troubleshooting the VAC. system for 6-months I confidently know the culprits and the headlights should pop tall (and quickly) by next week.
NO MORE WINKING!!
BRAVO ZULU CORVETTE-101!!
Re: THANK YOU CORVETTE-101.COM VACUUM ISSUES (Cali,77,L-82)
P.S. anyone out there know a better way of getting the actuator out without endangering the radiator/ paint job? Last time I ended up bending several of the radiator fins as the actuator studs cleared their mounts, I also ould not get it out without accidently scratching the edge of the hood. The actuators are wider then the front opening ahead of hood.
Re: THANK YOU CORVETTE-101.COM VACUUM ISSUES (Cali,77,L-82)
I took both mine out on my 74 this spring. After 2 days of twisting pulling, pushing, etc. trying to get them out thru the front grill, with cardboard on the hood and radiator, I quite. I removed the hood support and with the aide of a helper, tip the hood a little further forward and pop out came the acuators with room to spare. Relaced the seals, tipped the hood and right back in NO PROBLEM. Remember the hood has a lgood amount of weight and gets in an ackward position, so get a helper with good upper body strength.
Re: THANK YOU CORVETTE-101.COM VACUUM ISSUES (Cali,77,L-82)
I have not arrived there yet. Just saw that the reservoir can is dented and cracked...So, what would be the best way to patch a 1/2" crack in the sheet metal of this coffee can...fiberglass, brazing, jb weld, or DUCT TAPE? :smash:
Re: THANK YOU CORVETTE-101.COM VACUUM ISSUES (Stevo)
I used a fiberglass patch on my old Jetta's fuel pump and if it holds against gas it can stand up to vacuum, plus it's sandable and easy to mold when wet. Sand and spray paint to match, no one will know its there.
