I bought a new horn button assembly since mine was missing when I got the car. I cant figure out how they go together. I see how they fit together, that is simple enough, but how are they held together? The black part has just three smooth studs on it, but not threaded, there is no way to screw them together or hold it to the retaining ring somehow. Only thing I can think of would be to glue or epoxy it. Somehow that just doesn't seem right. Not sure why they don't come assembled already anyway? Here is the kit I am talking about...Maybe Corvette Central will se this and respond.
They come disassembled, to make it easier to paint them, to match the interior.
You assemble them buy putting the 3 pieces together, and then peening over the 3 studs. Put the assembled button, face down on something soft like a towel, and them use a punch to peen over the studs. The peened over studs, work like rivets, which is the way the factory did it, and intended them to work.
