I purchased a complete 4 speed takeout out of a wrecked 78 for my 82 CE. I know the General never offered a 4 speed in 82 so I wondered if the Z bar bracket was on the frame. Well I ventured out the garage and popped the hood and I don't see it. I see the brake line block on the frame. Am I looking in the correct spot? I know I can get the bracket and weld it on. But maybe I'm just blind. Anybody know exactly where the mounting point is?
Your 82 would not have had the bracket for the clutch cross shaft. Even on 68-81 cars, the frame only had the bracket, if it was a manual trans car. Automatic frames didn't get the bracket. GM never added one extra cent, to the cost of a car, if they didn't have too.
Get the bracket for an 80-81, as it bolts on, while the 68-79 bracket needs to be welded.
You can get a new one from a vender. They are not that expensive. I converted my 81 last year. The frame had the holes for the z-bar in it even though the car was an auto. I guess they drilled the holes in all the frames not knowing at that point if the car was to be an auto or stick. I would guess since no 82's were sticks they probably never drilled the holes.
Thanks, I found one online. I also ordered a rebuild kit for the cross shaft and some other odds and ends. I cant wait to get the 700R4 out. I also have a complete new rear with 3:73's also awaiting installation. Now it's going to feel like a real corvette.
I'm getting close to finishing the installation of a TKO 600 in my '79. Its been a lot of work, but there's nothing very difficult about it. Just a lot of little stuff to deal with. I assume you have cruise control on your '82. You should install a switch to shut off the cruise when you step on the clutch. One of the members of this forum drew up some very nice detailed plans for a bracket to mount a switch on the clutch pedal.
One surprise for me was that the floor pans are different between the auto and stick cars. You will have to cut a big hole and patch it up with some metal because the automatic cars have a depression moulded into the floor under the console for the shifter.
My cruise control was removed by the PO and it's long gone. But still a great idea to disengage when the brake or clutch is depressed. I had no idea they used different floor pans between models. I think I'm going to have to mock up the tranny a couple of times and try to minimize the hole I cut.
Be sure to install the Clutch safety switch before You install the peddles. That was the biggest mistake I made as its about impossible to do later on.

Are you talking about the hole in the "hump" for the shifter? The auto is recessed. You may find some help in the last three pictures on this thread from when I did mine.
Also, I got rid of the cruise control on my car. I went ahead and worked on the steering column to get rid of the gawky cruise switch. You will have to find an old blinker lever and turn a groove in it so it will fit.
