Is there any way to tighten up the ball and socket. The mirror is original and chrome is perfect but if you close the door a bit hard or even look at it the wrong way the mirror moves on the ball. Is there anything that I can do or something I can "lube" the ball with that will tighten this up? Sure glad it only has the drivers side outside mirror.....

Have you searched the archives ? There have been threads about fixing the problem. Does your car have enough original parts to make it worth saving the original mirror ? If you do get a repop the Paragon USA made one has lasted many years for me. They can even date code the glass to your car if that makes any difference to you.
Yes, it can be fixed. Search the archives.
I think lube will make it worse.
Try shooting a little silicone calking or gasket sealer in there for a temp fix.
If you remove the glass (soak it in gas for a while) then place a "c" washer around the ball under the tensioner, that should help put more tension on the ball to reduce the movement. You can then replace the glass with some silicone adhesive.
Hope that helps.
