Ahhh A/C or R134a does work
Well new compressor, another vacuum pull and charge and I get:
woo hoo it's cold, I did see some high 20 degree temps too but didn't have the meter recording then. But on average 40-42 degrees on a 2 hour test cruise on a 85 degree day with so-so humidity.
What I learned was; don't add R134a by the 80% of R12 charge rule, go by pressure. I got my best results at 26PSI low side/ 240PSI high side. Still a bit higher then what the guys on the AC forum recommended. There they have been saying "charge until high side pressure is 2.2 to 2.5 times the ambient temp". Which in my case would have been 195-220 high side pressure, so I might be just slightly overcharged. Running lower pressure the compressor was cycling to often for my taste.
But all in all $500 and my labor gets me away from heat rash temps in the cockpit, and I'm Happy :yesnod:

Thanks for the info. I'll be doing mine soon and this will certainly help.
