Hi vette guys, I have an 80 vette and would like to upgrade the power steering system. Which one is better the steering rack by steeriods or the modern steering box kit by Borgeson? Second question is how much HP can I get out of a ZZ4 with bolt on parts? I would like 425-450 HP.
To get 425 horsepower from bolt on parts, you will need to purchase new heads. If you don't mind slightly porting the existing L98 heads that are already on the engine, ~425 gross horsepower is probably doable. I don't have dyno numbers for my engine outside of the car, just off a chassis dyne. I'm producing 328 Hp at the rear wheels with a modified ZZ4. Figure I'm somewhere near 400 net horsepower.
Early on I had some issues with valve float with the LT4 cam shaft, so most of mods are in that area. I might have gone overkill, but I don't have any valve float so I don't mind.
Not a killer engine, but it's been reliable. Been in this configuration for over 10 years now. Sees 6000 rpm quite often.
Mods:
Home ported cylinder heads (removed casting flash, improved radius going into valve seat, removed machining flaws in ports, etc.)
