My 75 was idling and I was reving it. Then the thing just went dead. Now the fasten seatbelt light barely glows, the tach needle will slowly move from 0 to 6000. Its like the battery went dead.
Any ideas as were to start? I am going to check the battery, although it is less than a year old. If it was a Chevelle I'd know were to start. Maybe a ground problem? Thanks in advance!
Check the ground from from the battery to the frame and from the altenator to the radiator core support. Also check the two fusible links just above the starter.
Not sure about you 75, but my 80 uses a connector that located on the firewall, near the passager side cylinder head. On my car this connector connects the fusible links from the starter to the main harness. I found one of the pins to be corroded, which caused the connection to heat up and begin to melt the connector.
This caused the same problem you mentioned, so it may be worth a look. Also check the chassis and engine grounsa s mentioned. Also check the positive cable for corrosion on the battery.
If you take a voltmeter from the positive terminal on the starter (battery cable) to the frame and you have 12 to 12.5 volts when you are experiencing the problem, sounds like it is down stream, so then trace out the fusible links as mentioned.
