Once you take out the bolt and the hold down. Do you have to twist and pull the assembly to get it out of the tail shaft? Will anything come flying out besides trans fluid? Thanks

Only thing holding the unit in is a O-ring. You should be able to turn and pull the unit gently and remove. If it binds then it is possible something may be broken with the plastic gears. (symptom speedo not working) Did the speedo work before starting this job ?
There are 2 seals- one is the O-ring around the fitting in the trans, the other is a small rubber seal around the speedo gear shaft. That one is held in with a small round wire retainer. The retainer pops right out with a small screwdriver or pick, and then the seal. The older style seals were metal- just like the output shaft seal only smaller. Later, that seal is just a rubber cup.

Anyone have a picture of the small rubber seal around the speedo gear shaft?
