Drop the steering. Drain the oil. Remove the oil pan. One bolt to remove oil pump. One bolt to install new oil pump. Clean gasket mating surfaces on pan and block. Install new gaskets. Install pan. Re-attach steering.
You will also have to install an oil pick up tube to the oil pump. You'll need to buy or fabricate a tool to do this. I would not recommend trying to re-use the old one.
submerse the pickup in some clean oil, and spin the driveshaft by hand until oil flows from outlet. if you pour some oil in the pump first, this should not too take long. if you don't prime the pump, you could damage engine bearings if they don't get any oil for a few seconds. good luck.
I didn't have any trouble clearing the exhaust, but I have duals. The trick is clearing the steering. Someone once posted that a certain position (I don't remember the exact position) of the balancer allows more room between the steering and crankshaft for removing the pan.
