Need Tires
I have a 78 Silver Anniversary that needs a new set of tires. I currently have the Goodyear Eagle GT's on it, but they have dry rotted over the years and I need to replace them. I understand that these tires are no longer available. I really want to go back with White Letter tires, Can I get some advice on what kind of tires to put back on the car. The current size I am running are the P255 R600 R15.
I purchased these tires about 12 years ago and they probably only have 1000 miles on them, Had a blowout this past weekend, so don't need to take any chances. Any help is very much appreciated.

The BFG Radial T/A is definitely a good choice. Correct size rubber for our cars is getting harder to find as tire makers are shedding low-volume tire lines. You can also look into the Cooper Cobra and Pep Boys Futura GLS Super Sport which is a Cooper Cobra under the Pep Boys name.

I have a pair of Mastercraft Avenger G/T's (255-60-15) on the rear of my C3. The Eagle GT II's had hardened to point of very loose traction. Same speed, wear and all-season rating as the Eagles.
The Mastercrafts are manufactured by Cooper Tire; makers of the Cooper Cobra G/T's.
About $125 each; mounted and balanced at the local Goodyear store.

WOW ! Thanks for all the Tips Guys. Since this is the wife's car, bought it new. researching all info on the tires you all have recommended. She use to run Autocross but now it's just a Sunday Driver. So the main concern now is looks, good ride and less noise. These cars always rode like a steel wagon to me, anyway I don't guess any tire you put on it will be smooth, but hopefully with all the info that you have given me I should now be able to tell her which tire to buy.

i have the cooper cobra, not a bad tire seems to be well made. i mounted mine blackwall because it just seems wrong to have a tire named cobra on a corvette

Once Cooper stops making replacements, I'll step up to 17" or 18" rims/tires.

I am on my second set of BFG T/A's. I have never had any complaint with them. I considered going to a 17 or 18" but I never really liked that look. I realize the performance would be better, but I'm more of a 'period correct' kind of guy. Some might say 'old'.

I just bought a set of Coopers. America's tire matched the PepBoys 20% off price of $80 ea + m&b. About $425 total.
The Coopers are rated the same as the BFG's and are made in USA, plus being over $200 a set cheaper with this deal. I couldn't pass it up.
I went black side out also.

Rats! The two front tires on my newly acquired project car are "new 15 year old tires" (probably left over from another P.O. project).....
The rear tires are the 2nd P.O's 295s.......not my choice, but only 3 years old and plenty of tread....
Looks like it's time to re-tire the front two......................
