Damn Shane that is one hell of an engine you built to run those times on a 3.36 gear. Slap a 3.55 or 3.7, some slicks and watch out!
I have a 3.7 and am getting a 5 speed because of it. The tranny swap will be about the same as a gear switch and give me a better range of final drive ratios then just a 4 speed and a lower gear.
Fevre:
That's what everyone keeps telling me. I'm actually considering going with a set of 4.10s to go along with my 4 speed. I'd really be cooking then :D.
The RPMS at 70 mph is subjective based on your tire size, rear gear ratio and final tranny ratio. I should 69 MPH at 3000 RPMs with 215/70R15s, 3.70 rear gears and an M21 in 4th gear (1:1). This is based on a calculation I have found that seems pretty accurate.
Bence - I might be wrong here (wife tells me that a lot :D ), but your speedo could be off, though I don't know the final drive gear ratio on your tranny.
LT1driver - you would be at 2763 RPMs at 70 with an M21 in 4th gear and the same tires with 3.36 gears, again if my calculations are correct.
You need to buy FroDaddy's TKO. You get the steeper first gear plus the OD on the highway. I am cruising at 70mph at 2000 rpm and 3000 is about 105. Gotta a love that .68 OD 5th gear.
FYI, if you still have that T-10 and swap to the 4.10 rear:
2.64 x 4.10 = 10.82 overall first gear ratio
With the TKO and the 3.36's:
3.27 x 3.36 = 10.99 overall first gear
I think the BB could handle the larger RPM drops with the TKO. :smash:
My tranny is a T10 4 speed with a 1:1 4th gear. If you do the math on the website (215/70/15 tires = 26.85" tall tire). You get 70mph @ 3000RPMs. I've check the casting number of the rear end and it is indeed a 3.36 rear end.
Steve:
If I had the money man I would :). A complete rebuilt 4.10 rear end would cost 1/2 as much which would leave $1000 to put into the engine or whatnot :). My car doesn't see a lot of highway driving anyway.
