Had a 700r4 installed by<what I heard> a recommended high performance trans shop. the trans works great and delivers all I asked for, with built in 450+ HP capability without damage. still running the 180HP L48, stock 75 350ci. Ive had to go back to the builder 2 times new about leaks. One was the speedo cable connect, then, again the speedo gear drive seal. both it seems in the same spot. I drove the car maybe 150 miles on an easy freeway cruise, parked for 2 weeks. Lo and behold, a puddle of trans fluid on the driveway 1 by 3 feet again after I uncovered the car and moved it. The question is, is this a symptom of the 700r4<so I have been told> and how can it, or why cant the leak be stopped. Seems to me that a tranny that is stock oem hardware on so many GM models would not leak like a fuggin sieve on 8 million cars and not have a factory fix
Sorry to hear that.....my 1989 700R4 at 170,000 miles started dripping from those places....I replaced the seals with Oreilley parts and haven't had a problem in 5 years. I wonder if the speedo-gear-shaft is undersize and not sealing correctly.
I'm not sure what type of seal is in the speedometer cable transmission connector.....
Is the transmission over-filled, or is the pressure relief port on top of the transmission case accidently sealed closed/or bent....causing pressure to force fluid to leak when the car is parked?

If it is leaking as it sits it is a easy fix , Just call them and bring it back and ask them to check it closer and ask if you can get ur eyes on it when the check it.
Items to look for.
Speedo seals , rear housing seal , govenor seal , linkage seal , TV seal , dip stick seal , pan gasket , servo seal .
Best way to find leak , wipe down trans , use break cleaner to clean ttans and let it sit over night if need be with out driving it .. Lift it and you will see where the leak or leaks are.
