building a 427 stroker and need advise on which carb. I have afr 210 heads, 10.5 comp ratio, haven't picked the cam yet but it will be on the wild side. it has an auto trans 377 rear and will be for street only. I called Holley and they recommended the 770 street avenger but the reviews are not that good. any help?

My set up is pretty similar...sbc 434 trick flow 215 and 11.1 comp ratio. I like Quick Fuel. Originally going to go with their ss830 mechanical but upon testing my car performed better with the ss780 vaccume secondary; probably because of the automatic trans.
Thanks, I have read that the 800+ cfm is a little big. I will look at the quick fuel.
nice working with engine builder as they can swap our carbs. Want to be around 800cfm but ymmv. here is a basic formula...ci/2 x rpm/1728. Formula from Car Craft; http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...ng_right_carb/.
In your case 427/2 x 6000/1728= 742cfm Naturally running large cams, higher rpm, your set up will change this.
I know the 850 sounds big but this is basically the same carb used on an L88 with an electric choke and some upgrades. Your at similar power levels. The beauty of the vacuum secondary carb is it can be jetted for correct A/F ratio. adjusted to your vacuum specs and the vacuum secondary will only give it what it needs when it needs it. Your VE will be a lot higher than most of the calculators or Holley tech support will figure. If you want to go more conservative look at this. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/qf...0-vs/overview/
I am working with Tom Pfaff racing in Huntington Beach Ca and he doesn't like the quick fuel stuff and is pushing me toward the Holley. thanks, sounds like good advise.
I have a 427sb, AFR 210s, and use a QuickFuel 950 (jetted and tuned for my combo of course). Your carb choice should be dictated by your engine horsepower and RPM capacity as well as cubic inches. You need more CFM than the "standard formula" indicates for a hi-po engine like yours.......close to 2 cfm per horsepower is the rule of thumb.
Anyone who doesn't like QuickFuel, but loves Holley, doesn't strike me as knowing much, since they are really the same carb, just tuned differently. Either way, get a carb that flows a true 850-1000 cfm, depending on your horsepower.

Been super happy with AED they will custom tailor it to your cars motor gear weight etc.
Give jeff a call in sales over there, service is first rate after the sale. Would buy another tomorrow!
They will select the proper one for you
You can also look into fuel injection .. You cant go wrong with those kits and the performance you get from them as well as drivablity is worth the money
I like the billet base plate of the quick fuel,or the speed demons .the quick fuels are a great carb for the money .if you are mostly street driving a quick fuel 750 is a good choice .pick the carb after you settle on the cam .then you have a ideal of you hp potential ,and what carb you mite need .what intake are you going with ?I wouldn't recommend a 850 carb with a dual plane .
Im going to say call Patrick from Pro Systems, he custom builds a carb for your combination and wet flows it and sends a build sheet with it. He has great customer service also in case of any problems. I have used his carbs in the past and it was a bolt on and hit the ignition and it ran perfect.

From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
You could go with the 750-850 classic Holley DP, it will work and they are not expensive. If they are still selling Demon carbs I would look for the 750 Dp with annular boosters, love mine, the 750 Demon will flow near 900cfm in comparison to the Holley carbs.
Here is a great deal. The Holley refurbished carbs are checked more thoroughly than right off the line and you save over $100. I have bought these direct from them with great results. 90 day full warrantee.
