Guys, I need help. While I am installing the T56 in the 78, the t/t column had to come out so why not paint it.....well, this fell out. There is one that looks like it in the wheel lock location.. However, I can not find where this one goes...help please...

That rod looks to me like the one that locks the telescopic function. It would drop down the center of the upper shaft and the star bolt tightens on it to make the column lock.

The link is to Jim Shea's steering papers- you should be able to find it in there.

Sure sounds like what Jim Shea describes here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1553981089-post6.html

If you have a 78 chassis manual look on page 3b-65 #69

I just had this happen to me LOL
That rod goes Inside the telescope rod, there is also a sort of half moon shaped piece of metal that is flat on one end that rides the telescope shaft. Place the thin rod inside the telescope metal rod, and then also place the other metal item in the end. You will see the Telescope Rod will only fit in one way once you palce the 2 in there. This will help as well.
