Tremic 5 speed oil
I would like to know the best oil for a Tremic 5 speed.
I used automatic transmission fluid as recommended when it was originally installed. What is the current recommendation for these transmissions? How often should it be changed for the occasional weekend driver?
They recommend GM Syncromesh.
I use Penzoil Syncromesh in mine that was recommended as a cheaper alternative by one of Kesler's techs.
Don't know about change interval.
I got my Tremec TKO 600 from Modern Driveline and they supplied Amsoil Synchromesh Transmission fluid with it. Haven't had a chance to drive it more than up and down the driveway yet so not much to report there. I'm not a big Amsoil fan but I figure I better use what they recommend.
Hurst wrote also Synchromesh and additional options would be ATF and a Mobil 1 transmission fluid.
They explained in the instructions, that oil that makes shifting easier causes more wear on the tension rings. So its on your own. If you want longer lifetime of the rings, you have to accept harder shifting. The Synchromesh would be the best between shiftability and tension ring wear.
More than happy to get AMSOIL products for forum members at dealer wholesale pricing, about 25% below retail, via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program. Drop me a PM if interested.
