I'm in the middle of an 82 motor hop-up. If ya'll plan to change your cam. SAVE MORE MONEY and do EVERYTHING esle you want to do. You have to remove a LOT(radiators, oil pan which requirs dropping the suspension and the torque converter cover) just to change the cam, so if you plan to just change the cam it's a good time to change heads, exhaust, radiator and such. The 82 is a REAL PITA compaired to my 74. There's quite a bit of work involved so you might as well do everything.
just did a cam change on my 82.yes you have to take out radiator,no you dont have to take out the a-c radiator, just take out the mounting bolts a-c radiator will move enough to take out cam. do not drop suspension not needed ,leave converter cover alone .oilpan only needs to drop 1inch in front only .i was able to put timing cover back on with out droping oil pan .cam change on the 82 should be about the same as the 74
Hey man, is my car giving you a hard time? It's only got 2 valves per cylinder, how hard could it be? Go ahead and stroke those heads while you're at it.
BTW- Thanks for all the work you are doing. You and Ken are the bombz!

There should be little (if any) difference in changing a cam in an '82 and changing one in your '74. Sounds like you did a good bit of extra work. The entire oil pan does not need to be dropped....only the front of it. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice, but I kinda knew that. when I was still lost to the Dark side, building 302 Rustangs, I learned that to change parts out piecemeal was just too Bubba.
to do a cam and not do the bottom end, especially the mains is asking for trouble
:smash:

Inside Ricer joke. This riceboy came over to Aarons house and my heads were out on the bench. His first comment was "wow, only 2 valves per cylinder"? He acted like he'd smoke me in his Integra cause it has "Vtec" 4 valves per cylinder blablabla.... Let Aaron explain the "stroking the heads" story, I don't know exactly what that conversation was all about...

There is alot of difference. I have A/C, so all that was in his way and he had to pull it.
The A/C condensor didn't get far enough back. Me, Jman and Mike all pulled on something and the cam need about another 1/2 inch. The headlights got in the way. I pulled the oil pan b/c I'm changing the gasket but couldn't get the wrench up there b/c the converter covers is in the way. The suspension didn't alow me to pull the pan off, so I had no choice but to drop it. Same on my 74. I'll post pics of the whole process when I'm done. Jman has me cleaning the enine bay up and everything, so it will be 80% show qualitly when I'm done. Hopefully this will be the last motor i'm asked to rebuild for a couple weeks...
The ricers thing is Richard thinks he's gods gift to imports, and he asked me if I was going to stroke my Corvette heads..and I gave him a weird look and said, I can strke my crank..dumb butt.
Jman said "you know, they make pepsi bottles with more litres then your motor"
Jeremy, I got those valve covers on...  ...Thanks, I love em.

I love it.
He cam by again, he's got a header, cat back exhaust, intake, wires, ignition, and a few other things. Probably good enough for a mid 15 @ 85-92....not toooooo terribly bad for what it is...
