I always thought the leading edges on the egg crate louvers on the 70 thru 72's were chrome. I was told that they were a silver paint--HUH? Since my are painted over I can't tell--anyone know?

Re: Chrome or Silver Paint--70-72 Louvers (1970 Dave)
The entire louver was chrome plated, the paint was applied over that, less the edges, where it was to show as chrome. 1970 (not all) used a slightly different design louver, and the vertical edges were not raised enough to leave a chrome edge, so there is chrome on the horizontal edges only, as well as the leading vertical edge. The chrome under the rest of the painted areas is usually not completely uniform, nor is it polished very well.
Re: Chrome or Silver Paint--70-72 Louvers (1970 Dave)
I wondered the same thing when I was cleaning mine Dave. It took several coats of regular aircraft stripper and a pressure washer to get all the paint off. Once clean we taped the edges and sprayed them to match, leaving only the edges chrome. Mine is a 72 and like George mentioned the flat surfaces were very irregular and not at all shiny, but the outside raised edges polished up very nicely.

Dave, there are photos of original paint '70 louvers on the registry website. You can see what George mentioned about the verticals (except the front one) being painted, and the horizontals being chromed. http://corvetteforum.net/c3/1970regi...xtdetails.html
