Default 1981 seat back, locked in upright position

Hey all,

I recently had to move my 81 to a friends garage whilst I did some work in my garage, painting the floor etc.

Anyway, my friend is quite a large guy and Im wondering if he has damaged my seat when moving the car around.
The seat back used to move freely but now it is stuck in the upright position. It looks to be hung up on one side more than the other and I just wondered if there was any trick to getting it un jammed.

I can take the seat out but would like to have an idea of what Im looking for.
TIA.

The hinges have inertia locks which can stick. You will want to take a look at the hinge giving you the problem.

Try pushing down on the seat back while you pull it foward.

Not really. The hinges were received as assemblies at St. Louis. The AIM only shows how they were installed.

Try doing a search on the Forum as this is a fairly common issue. Had the same problem with my '82. I used a small (very small) flat blade screwdriver to slide between the tight, movable metal hinge parts and aggressively jiggled it back and forth until the hinge finally gave in after several minutes. Don't give up, it comes loose then give it a good dose of silicone spray. Mine has not reoccurred. Good luck. Dave
