Hi Guys , I Have just bought my first Vette and after going over the car it seems very solid. The weather striping was bad and water build up in the floor caused the pans to rust out. I have new pans ordered they should be here this week. I have been doing the prep work on the floor. it seems like the fiber glass body will be in the way for welding in the new pans.(along the door sides) has anyone got any advice for me ?
My advise is to only cut out the part of the floor that is rusted and then cut the new floor to match and weld it in. Others will have ideas on this too, but that worked well for me.

There's a small lip of fiberglass that runs along the inside by the floor pan and it seems like the rust stop just inside of the lip. If i cut that lip off do you think it would cause any problems?

I don't mean to **** in your soup- but check the windshield frame, body mounts, frame channel and lock pillar.
In other words, your cab frame (also called a bird cage).
I noticed the floors were damp when I started to fix up my '73- and it's turned into a frame - off restoration. Rotten birdcage AND frame. Windshield header was completely rotten, and the channels are gone too. I've had to replace the frame completely, and I don't know what I'm gonna do about the rocker channels yet.
You can remove the fiberglass sill.. and then re-bond it in place when the job is completed. I'm looking for some pictures... we did this job twice in 2013 but it was early and I didn't post the pictures anywhere.. let me keep looking and see what I can find that may help you.

Thanks . I did do this already everything was ok. I replaced the windshield the weather stripping's where all rotten. the only rust i could find on the whole car was in the floor area . apart from some miner surface rust on the windshield area that i blasted primed and painted .

Thanks this seems like a good route to take . Those pics would be well appreciated.

Check the number 1 mounts.. behind the sill plates.. If you find flakes of rust in there, you have another issue.... Windshield frame.. I hope you don't, but in most cases this is the cause of the issue you have. I searched but I've not found the pics yet.. tomorrow it'll be easier for me.

I checked the number 1 mounts metal looks fine. No major rust. Some very mild surface rust. But the rubber body mounts all have to be done. They all seem easy to change apart from the number 2 mounts. dose the body have to come off for this ?
