What are the pros and cons of going with a 383 over a 350. I have access to a new rebuilt 383 for around $1000. Builder claims 360hp. Looks like the big block swap is out after being ripped off by a guy in N.C. DAVID COONROOD, CRESCO MOTORSPORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a liar and a thief. I know of at least 6 or 7 others already, that are in the same boat.
Anyway. What do you think of the 383 idea. It is a 2 bolt. I'm not a racer, just wanted a spirited ride!
383 with 360 is a mild build. 383s have a longer stroke therefore more torque. I said it i another thread.. 383's approach Stock BB power without the weight. you could probably grab the engine and sell it for a profit
Yes, one and the same. That is where I got in contact with him. I didn't buy on ebay, but contracted to have a 427 built to my specifications. We agreed on a price, I sent the money. For 6 months he lied continually, saying the build was coming along and would ship soon. Now over six months later he has filed bankruptcy and left me and several others that bought on ebay holding the bag. Pure fraud and scam, if you ask me. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Damn that SUCKS! What a scam, sorry to hear it. A lesson learned that hard way. I have a 383 boat anchor from Speed-o-motive. I bought a short block with cam installed and oil pan on. I was carefull to do everything right before start up and it still spun a bearing. I heard a very faint tap during cam break in but thought it might be the lifters since there are the variable kind and can make noise. I believe they did not clearance everything properly because it was a rod tapping against the block. They told me I did something wrong and they do not give warranties. I am going to rebuild it right, I think all parts are useable but still a PITA. That 383 sounds like a good deal, can/have you heard it run?
