90% sure mine is solid dark green. The 1980 GM shop manual shows "dk grn" as well.
Thanks, I tried the dark green with black tracer and no workie. It did work when I got the car ,but most of the wires from that side of the loom were pretty mickey moused, and of course that one I did not make a note of or take a picture like I normally do.
I will pull it back apart and see what color I find, I do know there is at least one more still not being used
It's dark green. I recently had to find it on my 80. It comes out of the loom where the alternator wires come out at. Mine was dirty and looked black until I used some carb cleaner on a rag and cleaned it off.

Crap I think that's the one I used, when I get time I will pull it back apart and take a close look along with a few other things.
Did your original dark green wire have a black plastic connector on the end to connect to the sending unit ?
Im sure I can test the wire to the gauge with a partial ground
BUT >>> I better also double check the coolant level, I topped off a new radiator and the burp tank, maybe it pulled the level down enough where it got away from the sender once it fill the block
There are a few wires that come out of the junction. The two wires that plug into the alternator, the red and black wires that go to the under-hood light, the blue wire that runs to the choke thermostat, the black with green stripe wire that goes to the idle solenoid on the carb, and the green wire that goes to the water temp sensor. Then there are solid black wires that are grounds that attach to the bolt on the back of the alternator. This is a larger wire than the others.

Hi CJ
My car is de smogged with a fresh GM crate motor. It was missing the hood light and does not run the stock carb. I have it all neat and tidy, but you just clarified my problem I believe.
Im pretty sure I have the green and black going to the sender, not the solid green.
I will switch that around this weekend and give her a try as well as top off the coolant and so on.
