Hood Stuck Closed
Thought about wording the title different, but when this gets buried maybe it will pop up easier in a search.
As you can probably guess the hood was stuck closed on my 74.
My first thought was to hit the latch. I could get my hand under the hood to the wiper motor area.
I was able to pop the plug out behind the latch on the driverside, get a screwdriver into the hole and on the latch.
I think I had to much tension on the latch to pop it open. After chipping the paint I figured it was time to try plan B.
I have had my car for about 2 weeks, but as it had seemed I was thinking this may happen so I took a look at the hinges/latch etc...
From their I got under the front bumper, took off the piece on the bottom under the vacuum tank.
Then I was able to reach up through the mounting brackets (part of the tank) to the hood hinge bolts.
Pain in the butt but I did unbolt the hood from the hinge.
Couple moving blankets under the hood held it open and I was able to get to the latch from the front.
Hopefully this can help someone. Really not fun or easy but it got the hood off undamaged. (except for me trying to just pop the latch and chipping the paint)
Mine was a 1/2" wrench also.
