Default New Intake

Hello Fellow Vetteheads,
Going to upgrade engine with a couple of bolt on's. I installed headers last year and want to go with new intake/carburetor/and upgraded distributor. Could I get some advice on what and which components to purchase?
Thanks

be a good idea to give the people on the forum some kind of an idea of what year vette and what engine you have, plus any other info that might be pertinent.

People using the mobile site don't see the signature

intake, carb and distributor won't give you any extra power out of an otherwise stock l82. Put the money towards a nice set of heads.

For the distributor keep the one you have and recurve it via Lars' papers. It will make a big difference.

On the carb if you are handy, rebuild it using cliff ruggles' book. You can get it at amazon. Just search his name in books.

The intake on the L-82 is supposed to be pretty good. Probably could be slightly improved upon with an edelbrock performer intake. The difference may be negligible and not worth the effort though.

my thoughts.... buy the things you want on your finished/master build... that is to say, put together a full build list, heads cam everything, ... then buy those parts over the next year or so and when you have it all, then put it together... This way you won't buy twice, for instance the carb you want/need now may not be good enough for your final build, and then you will just have to buy another.... thats how my 2 older boys do it.... p:-)

I am sending my OEM L-82 short block off to the builder Monday for a hot tank, all new bearings, 1 new piston and re ring-using the OEM forged crank and rods, and will be putting the engine back together with AFR heads and howards rollers cam AND the OEM aluminum L-82 intake. I may change my mind later-doubt it-but the L-82 intake indeed is really not bad at all and I not convinced of the merits of going aftermarket.

No, You will see significant improvements with a performance carb re-build. Send it to Lars or Ruggles if you can't or don't want to do it yourself.
Timing and re-curve of distributor is well worth the effort as well.
