Default Spark plug wires sets

Howdy,

Looking to buy some new spark plug wires for my 76 - 355. I bought some online from summit, I purchased the 10mm ones. I received them and half the wires are too small to even reach the distributor??? Very
disappointed. I travel quite a bit because of work so I have to do a lot of my shopping on line, without being able to see first hand what I'm getting.
Anyhow I would like to get some high performance wires. Any ideas would be appreciated and were to get them. As always pics are great.

Thanks in advance, John

I just bought the Accel 8.8mm stainless steel wires with yellow silicone. The were a universal set so I had to put ends on only distributor end. The best part it comes with the crimping blocks! They are more than plenty long. I'm very pleased with them. I can find the exact info on them if you want. I bought them from JEG's.

Are you running the wires through the original shielding? The original wires, for the two front cylinders on each side, ran down beside the block and through the motor mounts. A lot of guys just run them from the top. I used MSD Street-Fire cut to fit wires in the original shielding. Work fine as far as performance. mike...

I used the Taylor Spiro Wound 8mm wires and ran them down and under the sides of the block. No cutting required. I've had these wires on for longer than I can remember. Did a recent check for resistance and they're spot on.

FireCore 50 plug wires. I've tried/used everything out there and the FireCore 50's are the best I've ever used. Great customer service to boot!

I only use Taylor wires on all classic cars I work on. I have them on my 71 vette as well. They are probably one of the best brands around for cars with headers.

I also had less than desirable results with pre made sets. I got a universal kit from Moroso and a crimping tool (pliers). The set came with connectors for HEI and non HEI style distributors. So I made one practice crimp on a long wire with a connector I would not be using and the results were perfect.

The Accel wires I had on my car were worthless. In about 5 months if you opened the hood in the dark it looked like a light show. Replaced them with Taylor wires which I have had for at least 12 years with no problems.

As others have stated...Taylor. I've used many other brands and always come back to the Taylor wires.

i bought the taylor 10.5 wires pre made and they fit very close to perfect. it depends how you route them , if you have headers or not . a lot of things affect them. i know some get confused with wiring and do them one at a time but i find number 1 at the cap and pull them all off. then run the longest wires first .

John,

Have a 74, with a 350 and the Ram Horns. Bought an upgraded distributor with HEI with the TAC Drive.

I started with ACCEL 8.8. Very nice wires. A little pricey. You have to select a wire routing plan to ensure wires don't get fried on the exhaust. You also have to attach the ends. A not so fun task. Bought a number of wire brackets...wasn't happy with them. Melted a few plastic ones.

Ended going OEM per the AIM Manual. Was a tad expensive as my engine had NO OEM ignition wire parts left on it.
1. Bought HEI wires from Zip, non dated, were the correct length and had boots that allow the use of the wire retainer at the distributor.
2. Bought the spark plug heat shields new.
3. Then, Got carried away....saw a few good deals for ignition shielding on CF and EBay. Some new and a few used.

Am happy with the result as the wires are very secure and looks clean.

One learns patience installing all of the brackets

Good luck with whichever way you select.

you're supposed to route them first and then cut them and put the ends on

Thanks Guys, Sounds like Taylor is the way to go so I'm looking into going that route.
I just purchased the heat shields and cover for the distributor so I will order the wires today and hopefully when I get home next week it all will be there for me to play with.

Thanks again for all the input

Before you buy the wires. Make sure, "the diameter will fit. It may/will be a challenge to install a fatter wire into the OEM brackets/clips. OEM for 75 - 82 is 8MM.

Other:
I loosened the alternator to install spark plug heat shields for 1 & 3 plugs.
Unless you are a double jointed acrobat, you may need the car jacked up to install the V shielding, oil pan clips and the rear ignition shielding.
