Default Replacing header gasket

Looking for any tips/shortcuts changing header gaskets on '71 350 with a/c...remove collector bolts to lighten the load?

take out frt and rear bolts and replace with threaded rod.double nut threaded rod so you can snug it up in head.Next, remove all middle bolts and loosen threaded rods enough to slide gasket on. Most header gaskets have slots not holes on the ends.then thighten treaded rods and install bolts, they should align perfectly. There is no need to drop the headers that way.Becauseof accs. and such I cannot tell you exactly how long to make the threaded rod, you'll have to figure that out,but if you make them the right length you can leave them in permently. When you make the threaded rod to length put a nut on each side of your hacksaw so you can unthread the nut and remove the burr enabling you to screw into head.Hope this makes your job easier.

Loosen your collector bolts first, do your header thing (recommend Percy's dead soft aluminium gasket) and then tighten the collector bolts last.
