I am working on a 80 with r4 compressor-trying to hook the line to the rear of the compressor-can't find an o ring that fits-didn't have one so I have nothing to compare it to. Anybody tell me what type of oring this takes.
A good auto parts store should have a compartment case with an assortment of specific AC O-rings.
Pick out what looks right, think it's about an inch in diameter.
one guy told me they were metal with a rubber center. I did a couple R4's year ago, I can't remember what they took and I can't even find anything online.

I'm your Huckelberry.
O.D. 1 1/32nds."
I.D. 13/16"
O-ring material dia. is 1/8"
As close as I can get. mike...
Is the rear fitting a double o-ring aluminum fitting with a bolt in the center? I am quoting dimensions from my '77. Mine are just regular rubber o-rings.
They are just rubber, no metal inside.
Like I said, auto parts guy had a case of them, all different sizes, picked out the right one.
As specific as I can get right now.
mds3013 sounds about right, size wise.
I think I got some old ones that I tossed in my "rubber stuff" junk drawer. I'll take a look.
I think he's looking for a little more specific than that.
OK, I happen to have 3 NEW ones. I remember I did buy extra a few years ago.
What I got are 1 1/8" OD, 7/8" ID, 1/8" diameter, BUT, I can't remember if these were a different size I bought just in case.
I also was advised at the time to buy O-rings intended for AC systems, not just anything from the hardware store, therefore the advice to get em at the auto parts store.
I've bought every kind of o-ring that every A/C "expert" has suggested. The washer looking oring called a sealing washer-no go! I've bought the so called Seal kit for this compressor with the green and red sealing washers and inserts-still NO GO! I can see why most of you guys don't like these R4's-I'm starting to feel the same way. This one is 3 years old but I just installed it-it's still brand new-never had oil or Freon in it. I called the place I bought it at and they said I'm pretty much out of luck. This sucks!!!
I had the exact same situation. Believe it or not went to the Chevy dealer and for only $22 for two O-Rings they found me a set (The part number has been superseded and discontinued several times). The metal ones that all the parts books call for dont fit. They are regular rubber O-rings about an inch in diameter and about 1/8 thick give or take.
