I'm not intent on selling any time soon, but I'm disappointed I overpaid... Although I'm interested in maybe getting some iron vortec heads and a more aggressive bump stick
We've got guys dropping massive Jag engines in 'vettes with pages upon pages of threads, you decide to rag my *** about making a single related comment?
And what is it about those Chevy Hecho en Mexico blocks you don't like? Post something helpful to the thread or F.O.
Sorry I see your down south and need to defend your close friends. My opinion comes from using a device called a Brinell tester. Most of the "Hencho En Texas's close neighbor" blocks test SOFT! One of my buddies puts lots of mileage on his work truck and because of oil consumption issues GM had to warranty 3 different " Targetmaster " style replacement motors for him. My buddy is a pretty hard driver only knows full throttle or brake! when driving. If you plan on driving your Vette like an " Impala station wagon " I guess any replacement motor will do, I drive the snot out of my Vettes others cruise the fairgrounds in theirs, to each his own
Thanks for clearing up why you don't like the blocks rather than just raggin' my butt about Fords. Believe me, I don't care for 'em any more than any other Chevy guy, just reporting what I've learned.
And I'm not defending my south of the border friends, your state welcomes 'em with open arms much more than mine! I think you may actually be closer to the border than me LOL.
And I'll still take hecho en Mexico stuff over counterfeit Chinese junk!
Have you used a Brinell tester to check the 010/020 blocks versus others? I would also be interested in results of testing hardness of later model 350's with "SGI" designation. I've been told by more than one person that it stands for Spherical Graphite Iron = nodular iron, should be a whale of a hard block.
I appreciate the input from everybody on this thread, a lot of the info has been invaluable. But I don't want to see any arguing or bickering between grown *** men... The TM engines were dirt cheap, so it's predictable that they would be less than absolute top notch equipment... I like to drop the hammer and spin the wheels occasionally, but I also love to cruise, especially since in its current condition it couldn't beat much outside a Honda in a race... I just want to know if it'd be worth it to cam it/ throw some headers on it... or go further and maybe bump the compression up with some Dart heads... Since the block is notoriously soft it may not be worth it
I also don't seem to have too bad of a case of oil burning, I replaced the valve seals last weekend and it seemed to stop burning oil completely, although before it was minor, barely having to put oil in
