I have an electric fuel pump on my 69 427. It is giving me problems am I better off reverting back to OE fuel pump? How about converting carb to after market duel injection.
I disagree. Any upgraded mechanical pumps with a BBC are a major pain in the *** to fit properly. Ultimately I had to rig up a few brass fittings and run the line around to the front of the pump in order to fit it.
I used the Holley mech fuel pump with many years of problem free miles and the rebuild kits are cheap.
If you have side pipes it doesn't matter much but with full exhaust electric fuel pumps can get noisy depending on what you buy.
Unless your engine is putting out more than about 600Hp you don't need an 'upgraded' mechanical pump either.
I should have noted that I'm quite a bit over 600.

I've heard most holleys and edlebrocks are quiet enough for the majority of builds
I have had both. My experience is the mechanical is what the majority of motors need. Unless, you need to really force feed it gas to power it up. I have had two Holley's and they were pretty noisy. But, the choice is yours.
mechanical is so foolproof. If the motor stops, the pump stops. With electric you need relays and switches and safegaurds against getting in an accident and pumping fuel everywhere. BAM!
If you do decide to keep an electric pump I would take a look at the carter 4070 or 4594 pumps. The 4070 has been around since the 60's and are quality pumps. I have the 4070 on a 1965 gto 455 with dual fours and a Ranchero with a 460 and have over 10 years of trouble free service with them. I use a Ford inertia switch for safety in case of a crash or you can use an oil pressure switch for a shut off switch. I have had zero luck with holley red pumps.
