Prepare for lots of things to break when you do this job, best bet is to find a good mechanic, put in new valve seals, valve cover gaskets. No need to open a can of worms if you dont have to, job can be done heads on in a few hours.....just a thought.
It took an extra week due to a faulty leakage tester, but I completed the leak down test. The good news is all cylinders are in the 5% range except #1, which was closer to 10%, and was louder in the valve cover than the other cylinders so I assume the difference is leaky valve(s).
On the down side, the funding I had set aside for the engine upgrade was just consumed on a plumbing emergency (excavation and installation of a clean-out to the septic tank: $2677). Makes me a little ill to consider that for the price of aluminum heads and roller cam I got a 4" pvc 'tee' with a plug in it.
Thanks for the inputs on my prep work. I'll start another thread when I decide what to do about upgrades with a depleted checking account.
