Good morning, just purchased a 73,L82, 4spd. Always wanted one! Trying to solve some "BUBBA" wiring issues. Could really use a 1973 schematic. Currently working on blower..(no high speed)..read all the posts here...seems 72 and 74 are not the same as a 73...I have no in line fuse on the drivers side...however I did find a dead orange wire that I assume used to go to the blower relay...no sure where it originates from. Then I see that "Bubba" spliced into my purple wire that goes to blower with the blue wire that goes into the plug on the blower resistor. I have the 3 low speeds but no high. The relay only has the black ground, the purple, and the blue wires connected.Ant help would be appreciated...thanks!
The wire on the driver side that is connected to the horn relay starts out red from the horn relay then connects to a inline fuse. The other side of that inline fuse is where the orange wire starts. The orange wire should go to your fan relay.

Thanks Roco...but not the case on my 73...I traced the orange wire from the blower relay all the way back to the two main plugs on the rear of the fuse box.Disconected that plug, cleaned contacts, looks like the orange wire is connected to the furthest inboard spade. Having done that I connected my meter to the end of the wire at the blower relay and then probed all the fuse contacts and no continuity...so...I am baffled at this point. I have read every post about the horn relay to the wire in question and in line fuses...to no avail...
Go to member Papawana's posts, you will find wiring diagrams there.
Thank you, I sent him an email this morning,he will send to me. Unfortunately, I am not hopeful it will tell me what I need to know. I traced my orange wire from the blower relay all the way to the main connection at the rear of the fuse block. No where along the way was any in line fuse...so I am thinking 1973 was a year for some different things than a 72,or a 74...
I believe someone has done some creative wiring on your car. 72 and 73 A/C wiring should be the same. 71 is a little different as it has a a couple of "anti dieseling" relays that cause the compressor to kick on for 3 seconds when shutting the engine off. Sound as if someone has tried to source power for the high speed fan from the fuse box rather than horn relay.
In your first post you mentioned that you had three wires going to the blower relay. you should have two connection. One with a black wire and another with three wires purple, dark blue and a orange.

Hi Roco, I found an orange wire in the harness, cut and taped. I followed it back uninterupted to the main plug on the back of the fuse block. I had a few minutes at lunch time and tremoved the plug from the fuse block again...the prong that the orange wire is connected to on the plug has an empty space on the rear of the fuse block. So, I have determined that this was an extra wire from the factory and never used. So, I will cut that wire from its dead plug end, splice it to an in line fuse and run to the horn relay . The other end will now feed my blower relay. Yes, someone creativly spliced the heavier blue wire from the top of the heater box onto the purple wire that feeds the blower...was an attempt to replace the lost orange wire I guess. Now I have to figure where and what that blue wire went to...assume the heater switch in the console....now that I found the un used orange....I am alomost there. can't wait til I go to Carlise in a few weeks, should be plenty of C3's there to look over and talk to the owners. ...thanks Roco...Gator.
There is a wire with an inline fuse going to the horn relay. That is the blower high speed. Without it you will not have high speed. Why it's set up that way I have no idea but ' 73 has it and I had no high speed when the fuse holder fell apart from old age.
If 73 & 74 are the same and you have ac this might be correct
Yes, this is what I have. The blue and purple are tied together...damn ,it looks like a Bubba solder splice on my car. Anyway...somewhere a long time ago someone removed the orange wire from the horn relay....I found the remaining stub and terminal on the hot post. I found the extra orange wire and ran it back to the horn relay for power and to the blower relay....voila..everything works!! All speeds and with the blower switch off there is a very low speed fan running until the key is off. Was told this was part of the Astro ventilation. I will add an in line fuse to finish the project and re-tape the harness...thanks for the schematic...it was the only sent to me that was correct for my car! Gator
