Can anyone point me in a direction here? On a 79 L82 non-matching how can you determine if it is a L82 block? The #'s on the frt below the head are V0206TYX,50137. Casting # on the drivers side rear is 897000. Is this an L82 transplant or just a plain Jane 350?

I didn't find any such casting number. Are you sure that the first number is a 8 and not a 3?? There are following casting numbers that could look similar:
3970010
3970020
I think that you have a 3970010 which could be either a 2 or a 4-bolt block. My 383 stroker is built on a 3970010 block and it's a 4-bolt
You are correct it is 3970010. Is there anything that the #'s on the frt of the block tells you? I guess my question is anyway to to determine 2 or 4 bolt from those #'s?

no - the only way to find out is to either take of the oil pan and check it or to drain the oil and use a bore-scope to look inside to see if it's a 4-bolt block. 3970010 is one of the most common casting numbers...
This list all the suffixes found on the right frt pad under the head and the use of the motor originally. Which in this case is from a 1975 1/2 or 3/4 ton pickup :nonod:
Actually you CAN tell if a block is a 4 or 2 bolt, just by opening your hood.
Look at the pad where the waterpump connects to the block on the
passenger side. If it is a narrow pad that sticks out a little over an inch,
its is a 2 bolt. If it is a wide pad that sticks out about 1/2 inch, it is a
4 bolt. No kidding. :smash: :smash:

I have two bare blocks in my garage and they are the exact opposite to the above  I don't think 2 and 4 bolt can be identified without dropping the pan.
