Default Cowl Vent Cables

G'day All,
A few days ago I posted a a thread about the drivers side cowl vent in
my '69 being siezed. Well it turned out not to be siezed, but a cable
problem. For some unkown reason, the vent cable will not travel
completely on both directions. It is a though it is too short. The vent
door moves as smooth as silk, but when you use the vent lever to
operate the vent door it just will not travel through it's full throw.

Questions:
1) Could the cable that has been installed be too short?
2) Could the cable be incorrectly anchored at the lever end(incorrect position)?
3) Has anyone else had a similar problem?
4) Could someone(bubba) have installed the wrong cable at sometime in the past?

Thanks for any help provided.

Mark

I dont know if you were aware but there is a adjustment. On my 68 its a white sleeve right around the middle of the cable, turn one way to lenghten the cable housing the other to shorten it. Figured Id mention it in case you werent aware.

Oh, is that what that is for! That may be the solution, I'll give it a go, thanks Dug.

Mark

PS. Just tried that adjustment, but I seems that the cable was already at full adjustment and didn't improve on the current settings.

#2 nd 4 are possibilities.

The cable attaches at the lever and it's anchored somewhere on the console. if I'm not mistaken.
If you have an AIM, I believe it's shown.

I guess #1 is as well.

At the end of each VENT arm for cars without AC.

Yep. The AIM shows the cables, has a note on how they are routed, and adjusting them for lnegth.

Mike, isn't there an anchor point under the console near the forward fiber optics plate?
I really need to retrieve my AIM from my sisters garage.

Yes. There is a tab on each cable sheath which screws to the bottom of the console.
