Default TH400 Governor installation- Checks/Precautions...

Hi,
I wonder; What kind of checks/inspections/precautions do I need to perform, before I insert a repaired/or a new TH400 Governor w/plastic Gear ?
- Will the Governor slide in easily, or do I need to press it in ?
- If I repair the existing Governor with a new plastic Gear, are there some checks to be made, to see that the Governor will work satisfactory ?
- Other things to be aware of wrt this issue ?

It will slip in.

I've replaced just the gear a few times, but it has to be just right to last. Much better to just get a governor. They don't cost much.

Cleanliness is the most important thing. The governor is fairly precise and doesn't like dirt/grit/dust.

Before installation, hold it vertical and operate the weights by moving them in and out. Look closely into the rectangular slot in the governor body and you should see a piston move inside the housing. It MUST move absolutely freely with no sticking whatsoever.

Past that..just make sure you get the right governor. While they will all fit and function, the weights are specific to provide targeted shift points.
