The wire at the back of the alternator is a "battery provided power source". Try shorting that connection to ground if you don't think the battery can source any power to that terminal.
You seem to think current and power can only flow 1 way in a wire or something silly like that. Sorry, but it can quite easily flow both ways.
Wattage is proportional to the voltage. Saying you meant Wattage and not voltage makes no sense.
If you want another reason to upgrade the charging wire, the charging wire on a 79 jumpers through the firewall connectors to complete the connection between the engine harness and the chassis harness. Stressing those 35 year old connections by adding a fan load to the stock wire isn't a very good idea.
