I'm finally getting ready to get my first vette. I'm looking at gettin a 1978, either a Pace Car or the Silver paint job. I like the pace car body better, but it all comes down to what I am able to find/afford. I figured I would ask all of you vette gurus if you had any suggestions for me in my search for my dream car. I'm no stranger to sports cars, as my current car is a 1988 Firebird Formula.
There are a lot of Vettes in Texas I guess. Many forum members are there, I think like 1/3 or 1/2 by a recent poll, can't remember. A good amount though.
Since you are in Texas, get a vette thats 25 years or older, then you dont have to worry about emissions!
if he gets a 78, 78 model year started 25 years ago this year. and even if they state of texas says its a 78 so 25 years later will be 2003 he still has less than 6 months so....
get a 68-73....those are muuuuch better lookin than the later c3's... you want the chrome bumpers!!!(well 1 chrome bumper on a 73)
or if its gonna be a daily driver then get a 76 or 77 cuase those are trailer park trash vettes   :blueangel: :blueangel:
vettes can be made reliable to be daily drivers.... it just requires a lot of "before it breaks" attention method of swapping out parts... dont wait till it breaks to swap it out!!
'78 was the year I got my driver's license, so I've always had a soft spot for the '78 Vettes. I have a distinct memory of standing in the local Chevy dealer's showroom that year, gazing at the Pace Car.
But, no convertibles in '78. So, out of the question for me! Gotta be a vert.
GM did a survey about people that bought used vet and found that most people have a certain vet in mine, one that is better looking than all other vets. The results were it was the vet from the year they were in junior high/middle school.
I did the math once and that is why I bought the year I got. I wonder if that's why Daily_Driver likes those chrome bumpers so much?
There are 6 counties in Texas that require emissions testing. There air is pretty bad there. Counties are El Paso, Harris, Tarrant, Dallas, Denton and Collin. Unfortunately for me I live in Collin Co. Fortunately I drive a '69 so it is exempt, however the other cars are not except for "Kitty." BTW PhoenixCIS, Doesn't matter which year you get (as long as it is a C3) they are all fun! Welcome to the lifestyle!
