I can't really get answers to this on the C4 forum,,,,I'm building a 427 small block, Dart Pro 1 heads, quite a healthy cam, with a 112 LSA,,,700R4 trans. I want to run a Weiand street tunnel ram with 2 600 CFM Holleys,,,anybody out there running a tunnel ram on the street, if so how streetable is it,,,read lots of articles on the set-up BUT that's not really hearing from anyone who's actually running it. Alll the help would be appreciated!

Re: Tunnel Ram??? (autoxer)
I had an older car with a tunnel ram. It's not streetable. Unless you like crappy starts, no low end power and the worst driving experience ever, stick with a mini ram, or an intake like the air-gap and a single 800 CFM carb. They don't even start making decent power until about 4000 RPM anyway.
A street car with a tunnel ram is "All show....and No Go" to me. Great for the strip, but a VERY bad choice for the strret. A civic would probably pull you off the line, you'll have NO TORQUE until 4,000. But after that, Hold On!
:seeya I ran a Edelbrock Performer 2.0 with a 750-CFM Holley on my 454 Big Block found it be a very good combo with a mild GM hi-performance cam! The only problem was I needed more cfm...850 CFM! :yesnod:

I have to say that with the right combo you could make it streetable. that means; the correct cfm carburetors, stall speed converter, rear gears, the correct cam will help for low to mid range torque so the comment of no torque is :bs I have yet to be beaten off the line by a civic! :D I now run a Comp Cam 280H Magnum, a 2200 TCI converter, 2-450 CFM Holleys, Edelbrock Street Tunnel Ram. :yesnod: I can tell you that if I hit to many traffic lights or just idle too long it will start to run too rich ...but a good run thru the gears clears it up quick! :D :D :D
All I've really heard is that they are harder to start with the two carbs. Hot Rod I think did an article about a good amount of tunnel rams for the street.

I will digress saying a street tunnel ram has no bottem end. In a big block you CAN have streetability with all the low end torque, it's more forgiving. The SMALL BLCOK tunnel ram, suffers a great deal more on the street. But even still, gears and a high stall will take care of that. :yesnod:
You better watch those Civics now....... j/k

Point well taken a Big Block does have more bottom end! :yesnod: I think maybe we ought to talk him into going with a 8-71 Street Blower instead! :yesnod:
Hell yeah, a nice Weiand 8-71 blower is the way to go. The only disadvantage is the blind spot created by it, but he already isn't bothered by that if he wants a tunnel ram. Just get a blower and set it up for the fastest 0-80mph time you can. Gas mileage be damned, let's roast some ricers.
