Default New guy, old corvette. Letīs improve it!

Hello!!

Well... actually I am not that new, i bought the Corvette in 2010 from a guy on this forum, while I was living in ATL! After few months the Vette was shipped to Italy (I am italian) and now she has a italian license plate. In few months she will have a German license plate (basically I take her wherever i move to ).

Now... the Vette is currently in Italy in my mechanic garage. She needs some minor fixing (power steering leak, parking brake etc)..

Since she is there and i have to buy stuff from US i was thinking... Maybe itīs time to upgrade also something else!

STEP 1 (more steps will come here!)
Iīve been looking for an exhaust then, but I have a lot of confusion. I read a lot on forums (italians also), but the result is that I am still confused

This is the sound that I am looking for:

I was checking Summit Racing for the parts (Willcox does not have many exhaust).
Other website?

CORVETTE SPECS:
1973, L82, automatic, a/c

I purchased mine through Pypes but corvette central. Others carry the stock dual exhaust and it's your choice of muffler. Go on YouTube and check out manga flow, flow max, cherry bomb, borla, ect....... You'll get a good idea of the sound you want but try to compare apples to apples. A 427 big block Chevy is going to sound much more aggressive than a stock 350.

That is most definitely the signature flowmaster sound! Probably the 40 series. Also, I'm assuming you know that the impala has an aftermarket camshaft so your vette won't idle like that unless you have one as well.

Cammed 383 stroker, headers, 2.5 stainless duals with X pipe and vibrant silent resonators... Think it's a magnaflow system... Idles like that, quiets down smooth for driveability, and screams when floored! Can still have conversations and listen to music cruisin down the freeway, but has one hell of a sound through town and at streetlights...

I wasn't happy with the sound of my exhaust until I built my own sidepipes.

Wow ! Throaty... And still a LOT quieter than I expected! How'd you do it? Or is that a trade secret ? Lol. Love the looks too. Great job !

I bought my vette the way it is, and after seeing what the PO paid for my exhaust system... I can't bring myself to change anything on it...

The Flowmaster 44 sounds good!!

In term of performance.... would I notice a good difference replacing the whole exhaust? I means from headers to mufflers.

I think I will choose the Flowmaster as a Mufflers. What about the rest of the exhaust? Suggestions?

Thanks

hi nitro, vince (member here) is in france...and has done some very neat exhaust tricks...for the c3... these are C5 type mufflers...and lots of proper routing..to get it correct..

Also, if you havent heard "corsa exhaust"...i highly suggest you hear that on youtube...

flowmaster has a specific sound and i love it... so does corsa.. will try to find some videos to post..

In addition..if you like this..you can go to the C5 corvette section here and look under "parts for sale"...and sometimes the members sell them... you can use many parts off the C5 system for this... tips, mufflers and some of the mandrel bends..

if you opt for mufflers this high and close to the fiberglass... consider ceramic coating (jet hot type)..or wrapping them with header tape (heat wrap)...

we are doing this with corsa extreme mufflers and ceramic coating the entire exhaust... in the usa..it cost only about $15 per foot (usd $50 /meter) to coat the exhaust pipes inside and out...in addition.. approx $45 usd per muffler to ceramic coat..

so..in theory..you can coat the headers, all exhaust pipes, mufflers all the way to the tips... the tips he used are searched by "double wall angle cut exhaust tips" or "two wall angle cut exhaust tips"...and are very available.. a double tip (one side) runs approx. usd $80 (so $160 for the pair)

a picture from vince coming...looking for now

Hey Qwank! That exhaust of yours is a winner. I have since the beginning planned on the factory styled side pipes with the fiberglass covers for my car. But after seeing what you did with yours and in particular the tips and those cool home made pipes I gotta admit that I will be most likely doing mine that way too. They say after all that, Imitation is the best kind of flattery. Again great job! Sorry for the hi-jack guys!

thank guys. The exhaust sounds killer. I went through 3 different muffler set ups before this and I am finally happy.

Flowmaster 44s were my second favorite sound.
