Default ignition switcnh key alarm help

I went to start my 70 vette and when I hooked up the battery after the car sat in my garage for the winter the buzzer went off with no key in the ignition. I am not sure what to do. The engine will not turn over and the key seems to rotate as it should. Then the key actuator (wing nut) came out because one of the tabs is broken. The key still works but the buzzer switch seems to be stuck closed. Why would this keep the car from turning over. Not. Sure how many issues I have at this point. Buzzer switch, broken key cylinder assembly and engine not turning over? This car was trouble free before the lay up over the winter which was in florida so the extreme weather is not a factor. Any ideas or experiences? Thanks JB

Are you sure the battery isnt dead, have you checked it with a voltmeter?
If an automatic the neutral safety switch could prevent it from starting.
If a manual the clutch switch could prevent it from starting.

Thanks for the reply. It is a manual transmission and the clutch switch might be the problem but the key buzzer is on when the battery is hooked up and only shuts off when the door is closed...all of this happens with no key even in the ignition switch on the column. The buzzer switch is normally open on the schematic and i am not sure why it became closed. The car has been sitting in my garage for about six months. The battery was charged and shows 12.48 volts, enough to run the parking lights. There were no issues when I last ran the car last summer...wondering if I need to dismantle the steering column...I was hoping it might be something simple but not obvious.
